Don,
I don''t have any definite info about Uncle Ed and Aunt Rita --- I''m pretty
sure they were married in Elmira, NY. Uncle Ed used to talk about being a
young man in Corpus Christi, TX. They never had any children. Uncle Ed had
been an "aeronaut" in carnivals around the country - he went up in hot air
balloons and made parachute jumps from them. He performed before the King of
England once and entertained the men building the Panama Canal. After they
were married, Aunt Rita went with him and also made parachute jumps from
balloons until she hurt her back. They retired from that business and opened
a successful tent and awning business in Elmira behind their house on Winsor
Ave. Uncle Ed held the "modern" patent on parachute packing for many years.
All of their large scrapbooks were lost in the Chemung River flood in the
late 1940''s. If my mom wrote any of their info down, it was in the stuff Mom
gave you years ago.
Love, Dad
